The REDWOOD EMPIRE MÄNNERCHOR was founded in April 1950 by John Alexander und a group of men with German backgrounds to promote and cultivate German songs, music, language and customs. Rehearsals took place twice a month, meetings to discuss current matters four times a year. This has never changed, even after the men's chorus became a mixed choir in 1989. At that time it became clear that the very existence of the choir was in danger since it had shrunk to only 12 members. To avoid dissolution women were invited to join and the choir continued as the REDWOOD EMPIRE SÄNGER CHOR. Our choir is a sociable organization with several singers who have been members for more than 30 years. We give a yearly Spring Concert and a Christmas Concert in the Hermann Sons Hall in Petaluma (where we also rehearse). Our Spring Concert this year will be on 26. of April 2009, and our Christmas Concert will be on the 6. of December 2009. We are cancelling our Labor Day Picknick for this year and in the future. We also participate in other concerts as a guest choir, or when invited for special occasions. We now have more than 50 singers and are fortunate to have an excellent conductor who keeps us interested and enraptured in singing our beautiful German songs.
